A Brief History

Depending on who you ask, North Side Jewelry & Loan was established in either 1917 or 1911. The earliest recoverable documents date to 1917, although it was widely held that it had been in operation since 1911.

Founded by the Sherman family, North Side Jewelry & Loan was bought by our current owner's grandfather, Harry Constangy, in 1929. At that time it was moved from its original location at 162 Edgewood Ave to 168 Edgewood Avenue.

Mamie Constangy inherited the company from her husband, who then turned it over her daughter, Elaine Constangy Wolff.  Mrs. Wolff then moved the North Side Jewelry & Loan to its present location at 242 Edgewood Avenue. Ultimately, Sam Wolff inherited our company from his mother, and remains its owner to this day.
